Retractable Awnings for Your Deck and Patio
Some days you want the sun. Some days you want shade. A retractable awning gives you both. Roll it out to cool down your deck in minutes, then roll it back to enjoy the stars. Hot Springs Awning installs retractable awnings for homes across the Hot Springs area and Central Arkansas.

How a Retractable Awning Works
Folding arms push the fabric out from your wall and hold it tight. When you close it, the arms fold back and the fabric rolls up against the house. Many systems include a protective hood or cassette that covers the rolled fabric when it is closed, keeping it clean and out of the weather. Open, it is a big swath of shade. Closed, it nearly disappears.
Retractable vs. Fixed Patio Cover
If you love sunny mornings and want shade in the afternoon, a retractable is hard to beat.
| Factor | Retractable awning | Fixed patio cover |
|---|---|---|
| Shade control | Open or closed as you like | Always covered |
| Rain | Light rain only | Full protection (solid roof) |
| Sunlight in winter | Retract to let sun in | Cover stays in place |
| Storms | Storms | Retract for protection |
| Permits | Often simpler | Often required |
Sizing Your Awning
We measure the width of your deck or patio and how far the shade needs to reach. Projection, which is how far the awning extends from the wall, affects how much shade you get and how the awning is mounted. We also check mounting height so the awning slopes enough to shed water while leaving plenty of headroom.
Mounting on Your Home
Retractable awnings put real force on the wall, especially when fully open. We look at your siding, brick or stucco and find solid framing to anchor into. If the wall is not right, we can mount to the soffit, the roof or a separate support.
Good Habits for a Long Life
- Close the awning in wind, storms and heavy rain.
- Close it overnight and when you leave home.
- Brush off leaves and rinse fabric a few times a year.
- Let wet fabric dry fully before rolling it up for long periods.
What Affects the Cost
Cost depends on width and projection, motorized or manual operation, open or cassette design, fabric choice and mounting conditions.
